Neston Junior School, Corsham
Client: Wiltshire County Council
Project Details:
New school building.
Materials Specified:
Masonry Block walling in Southwold and cast stone (including window
surrounds and plinths) in North Cerney.
Reasons for Choice:
The random rubble appearance of the walling was the closest match
to the original stone, and the cast stone complemented it well.
Other Information:
The original junior school, like many of the older buildings in this rural village, was constructed in locally quarried natural stone. The choice of external materials for the new school building, which is almost equal in size to the original, was by nature a very sensitive issue. The planning authority referred the issue to English Heritage, which gave its approval for the use of Bradstone products.
