CAST STONE CHOSEN FOR BRIDGES

Bradstone has been involved in the reconstruction and repair a number of canal and road bridges in Oxfordshire.

Working closely with the contractor Geoffrey Osbourne, Bradstone aided in the design of special cast stone units that would be suitable for use on the bridges. Splayed angles, copings and special stringcourses were then manufactured by Bradstone in a North Cerney shade to match the natural stone used on the original construction.

Bradstone is a leading name in reconstructed stone and provides walling, roofing and cast stone products to both house builders and commercial sectors.

Bradstone’s cast stone dressings provide a comprehensive range of components for the detailing of both stone, rendered and brick built buildings. Commercial Manager Mark Barter added: “On this project special consideration was given to the size and section of the Cast Stone units to ensure they were compatible with the existing materials and could be easily handled on site.”

As well as purpose made bespoke units, Bradstone also offer a complete range of stock cast stone units such as cills, faced lintels, quoins, copings and corbels. Window, door surrounds and units such as tuscan columns and canopies can also be made to order from standard designs.

Bradstone’s Rough Dressed walling was also chosen for the bridges project to blend in with the local Oxfordshire natural stone which has a buff grey hue. Rough Dressed is reminiscent in appearance of roughly dressed quarried stone. A wide choice of block sizes and shades allows for regional variations in coursing styles and indigenous stone characteristics.

Bradstone are founder members of the United Kingdom Cast Stone Association and manufacture cast stone units that are specified and used throughout the industry from a purpose built Wiltshire factory.
